What kind of windshield should I buy?
I have a yamaha V-Star 1100 custom and I'm leaving for an entire summer long roadtrip in less than one month. I figure I would want the biggest shield out there that fits my bike but I have no experience in this matter at all. I found a "high-impact acrylic" one on Ebay for like 120$ that is 20.5in high and 18in wide but the cost makes me think its low quality. Should I drop the extra couple bills for a polycarbonate or will the acrylic work fine? I'm 6'2" if that matters.
Seems usable. The height at top when mounted should be just below your eye level when sitting upright- you normally see over top edge, wind bubble is over top of helmet. Shield should be some adjustment for height and angle to keep from handlebar shake. 18 inch wide means hands will still be some in wind so be sure to wear gloves. Harbor Freight welding gauntlets are about $9.00 and work good. Acrylic is adequate, polycarbonate can degrade after few years in sun but until then is puncture resistant- used in bullet proof windshield and police visors that are replaced every couple years of use. A fork tree mounting system may be preferable to handlebar mounting
