Stiletto heels are the design of high heel shoes taken to its ultimate conclusion. The heel reaches a point where it can be as little as just one centimetre of heel touching the floor. Another usual characteristic is a highly accentuated pointed toe. The small area of heel on the floor can have some serious disadvantages. The concentration of weight over such a small area leads to the rather disturbing fact that the weight ratio is greater than the corresponding weight per square centimetre of an elephant's foot! Some other disadvantages are the damage these heels can do to carpets and wooden floors. If you are invited to a garden party you should leave them in the wardrobe! You do not want to be standing on a soft lawn and feel yourvery special stiletto women's designer shoes sinking into the ground and leaving you stranded and unable to move.
There may be other reasons for these special women's designer shoes being unsuitable to wear including some complaints from medical quarters, but sometimes all that matters is what makes you feel good, and these certainly do for many women. The stiletto gets its name from the word stylus meaning needle but is much more associated with the Italian knife of that name. This word association has always given the shoe a hint of danger. In old Hollywood gangster movies the dangerous ‘moll' always seemed to wear these very high thin heels.With such a narrow heel shaft the material used in manufacture has to be extremely tough. Steel is the most commonly used material and for this reason they are actually safer than most other high heel shoes.
Stiletto heels are much less likely to break and require very little maintenance. In their manufacturing process the small nylon heel at the end of the stiletto is attached in such a way that when it wears out, it is a very easy thing to repair by yourself. Originally these heel tips were made from metal but that was eventually replaced with nylon. The disadvantages of metal tips were that the metal did a lot of damage to many floor types. The advantages of nylon is that although it is only slightly better on floor surfaces, it is certainly more advantages to the wearer as there is a slight ‘give' which is better for the spine. Additionally, the nylon tip is a lot less noisy when the wearer is walking on a hard surface.
