Awesome Cleveland HiBore Monster XLS Driver
When Cleveland golf first released the HiBore driver in 2006, the newly designed head stood the golf world on its ear. Fast forward to the beginning of 2009, a mere three years later, and we're on the fourth iteration of the scooped-back driver. This one, as the name implies, is a monster.
The high-launch, low-spin mantra that has been the backbone of driver design is taken to new heights with the Monster. The advantage of this year's model is more of an emphasis on MOI or moment of inertia, the resistance to twisting at impact. The USGA limitation of a 5900 rating is pushed to the Ping i15 Irons limit with extreme rear and perimeter weighting of 24 additional grams.
The length is a whopping 46.5 inches thanks to a Made by Fujikura Flightspeed shaft. The stock shaft offering is the Flightspeed in all flexes and Gold (lower flight and lighter swingweight) or Red (higher flight and heavier swingweight). There are a wide variety of custom shafts from multiple manufacturers, which fit a range of golfers.
Technology Overview-
Well look out! The Cleveland HiBore Monster XLS is peeking it's large, thin face around the corner staring you right in the face! This is Cleveland's biggest and baddest (make that broadest) hitting area to date, covering 16 percent larger than it's predecessor, the HiBore XLS! That's a big increase. The intent of Cleveland? To provide an ultra-stable and ultra-forgiving driver. By all indications, it looks like they've succeeded.

Cleveland claims the face of the driver is 16-percent larger than the previous XLS driver.
Judging from the drives that fellow club members and I hit, you pretty much just can't miss with the Monster. The sweet spot appears to have expanded to the entire face. The test club was a stiff-flex gold shafted, Ping Anser Forged Irons standard model, 10.5 degrees.
One thing that immediately stands out about the Monster is its sound. It is LOUD! A well-struck ball sounds like it has been fired from a cannon. In fact, to my eyes that is the speed at which the ball comes off the face. The flight of the ball seemed like it was drawn onto the sky by an engineer; meaning, it was almost a perfect version of what ideal launch angle is prescribed. With a square face and neutral weighting, I was able to work the ball into a fade with a little more effort. A fellow club member who was working on "dispersion" issues (as in excessive fade) with his current driver immediately straightened out direction and launched the ball with a very controlled trajectory.

Is my driver's shaft not stiff enough?
I have a Ping G10 driver with a Fujikura Pro Vista 70 gram stiff shaft. On some of my swings I feel a sort of wiggle in the club. I started noticing it earlier this year and it was fine last year when my swing was slower. I don't know if a wiggle here and there is acceptable, but my drives are kinda horrible when it wiggles. So, I don't know if I should bump it up to an X stiff or if I should keep the stiff and pay attention to my swing speed, which I'm hoping won't make me concentrate too much on having a slower swing.
The most common problem is a hook to the right. it isn't too bad, it goes far enough to end up in a fairway to the right of the hole I'm on. And the wiggle is just like a wagging motion I feel on some of my swings.
If a shaft is not stiff enough you will get "Ballooning" which means the ball rises / curves upward due to backspin and basically dies in the air (lost distance). Left-Right is often caused by other issues in your swing and rarely the shaft.
What is your swing speed? Lots of golf stores have swing monitors; go in there and get some numbers.
