our hampster isnt moving and wont wake up when prompted but is not stiff its soft and when poked feels hollow?

notice hed not touched the food put in for him the day before tried to wake him with no joy so my bf poked him and he was soft but felt very hollow it is cold in the living room where hes kept and hes only 8wks

do you think hes dead??

and if so any advice on how to tell 6yr old daughter as its her pet
her 1st hampster died about a month ago but had been fine till the cold weather set in shed had it since feb

By being in a "colder than usual" place... perhaps your hamster is in "Hibernation mode". They do that with temperature change. Have you picked him up to hold him ??

If he is still alive..... he will NEED warmth. Set his cage on a heating pad set on LOW. He still needs placed in a room that is NOT COLD. If he/she starts to 'rally", give him pedialite (or add 1/4 teaspoon of salt & 1/4 teaspoon of sugar to 1/4 cup of water) and try to get him to lick it off of your finger. Hopefully he will start to drink as he wakes up. You may need for a day or two to dampen (to soften) his food.

Try warming him up before you pronounce him dead. When I was a little girl, I had 3 hamsters. An Aunt that was allergic to 'everything' came to visit, so Alvin, Theodore, and Simon went into exile--- out to the garage. It was heated, but not as well as the house. Theodore went into hibernation (which I didn't know at the time)---Alvin and Simon were fine. It was dramatic/traumatic !! Luckily my Dad knew, and hand warmed him until he started 'coming around'-- and he was fine after a day or two.
