PGA Tour for a Rich Golf Experience

If you are a golf enthusiast, then you must have your eyes set on the PGA tour. It is an association that manages the chief golf tours of USA. Their tournaments are distinguished and the participating golfers are the most renowned in the world.

PGA Tour was earlier a part of PGA of America, but it separated in 1968. It is a group for tournament golfers, and not for club professionals. The name ‘PGA Tour' was espoused in 1975. There are various golfing events held by this organization, and some events are run by various other organizations. This organization is basically for men's golf tours though there have been women participants as well.

If you are a golf enthusiast, and you want to attend major PGA events then you should start looking for Hawaii golf packages, as the Sony Open is going to be held in Hawaii in January 2011. This year, the Waste Management Phoenix Open was held in February, which attracted a lot of attention towards Phoenix golf.

Since there are a number of names related to PGA, there is often a confusion regarding what this organization does. PGA Tour manages 3 tours- chiefly held in the United States.

PGA Tour

One event is hosted in Mexico, Canada and American ownership of Puerto Rico every year. Apart from that, one of the major annual championships is also held in UK.

Champions Tour

It is for golfers who are 50 and above. Regular tournaments are being held from present year in South Korea, Dominican Republic, Canada and UK.

Nationwide Tour

This tour has a greater presence of events than the other two tours. From 2010, one tournament is held in Panama, Mexico, Colombia, and Canada, while 2 events are co-sanctioned in New Zealand and Australia.

Apart from that, they conduct a qualifying tournament each year- also known as the Q-School. The players who achieve the top 25 ranks are allowed to play in the next year's tournaments.

Charity

PGA tour is also active in charity fundraising on behalf of local charities wherever they stage their events. Almost all tours are non-profit ones- in fact the PGA tour itself is a non-profit organization. There are more than 2000 charities that benefit from Nationwide Tour, Champions Tour, and PGA Tour. Each year, the total amount raised by charities is more than $100 million.

PGA in UK

Apart from the US PGA Tour, there is also a European PGA Tour.  The European PGA Tour and the USA PGA Tour co host the World Golf Championships.
