Four Myths Associated With Open Source and Their Reality
Open source technology has been a driving force for the developers. It is created as a collaborative effort through which programmers can improve the codes and share the changes within the community. Besides being free, it is more powerful than most commercially available products. In spite of being one of the most popular technologies, there are certain myths associated with open source. Some of the myths and their reality have been mentioned below:
Ø Price is the major attraction of acquiring open source: The major benefit of open source technology is its price. Majority of people think that you download software from the net and do not pay a penny and that lures companies to use open source technology. But majority of the companies using open source technologies have a different opinion. They feel that it is not about the cost associated with the software that makes them use open source technology but the effectiveness with which the software can serve their purpose. Ø Open source is unregulated and not reliable: If open source is not reliable then internet is also a non-reliable option. How much is a never opened 1983 cabbage patch kid worth?
When I was little in the early 80's, my sister and I received our very first CPK dolls. For some reason, one of my grandmother's thought I lost mine, and bought a second one for me. This doll has red hair and green eyes. She has never been taken out of the box, so everything is mint! I'm interested in selling for the right price. Where can I sell for top dollar?
The value will depend on which doll it is and the condition of both the doll and the package. A rare doll in a package which looks like it just rolled off the production line will be worth the most. Any damage to the packaging, even tiny amounts of wear and tear, will drop its condition to "near-mint" and the value will drop accordingly, although it will still be worth noticeably more than severely damaged packaging and significantly more than a doll out of its package.
You may want to check out CPK collector websites and eBay to determine which one is more likely to give you a higher price. If you want to get the highest price, do NOT open the package to take the doll out, even to photograph it. Old toys with the original factory seals unbroken on the boxes command a premium. I'd recommending gently dusting the box, though, if it's gotten dusty.
Don't necessarily expect hundreds of dollars, though. Depending on the particular doll and the packaging design, even one in a pristine condition may only be worth $50 or so. Of course, should it turn out that you have a rare doll or packaging variant, the sky's the limit. Just do your research first so you're getting good value.
Note also that January is not a great time to sell such things. If you can, hold out for next November/December - your find could be the perfect Christmas present for the adult collector.
