Golf China on verge of a golf boom

After the International Olympic Committee's announcement last October, the sport's governing body in China vowed to develop the "game for the rich" and show the world's most populous nation is set on making top international golfers in the near future.

Golf is a sport which technique matters more than athleticism. It's a suitable sport suitable for Chinese. Only if it is developed according to  the state-support system, it will produce some of the world's best athletes as in badminton and table tennis. At the present time, among the 30,000 golf courses in the world, America has two thirds and Japan 2,000 while China only 500.

In order to achieve that expectation, government should decrease the tax paid by such clubs. Golf should be widely seen as a game for entertainment providing for everybody and thus the business tax rate should be lowered. However, adding the land-use tax, a golf club has to pay nearly a 30 percent tax rate and therefore most clubs have high fees in order to make ends meet. In that way, it will not boost golf's popularity in China.

The China Amateur Golf Futures Tour, which was established last year will provide hundreds of promising junior players with the opportunity to play at a competitive level.

Even though golf had been restricted to at small group of people, especially the rich groups, China is able to lift the golf sport to the world's top level once it is included in the state-support system.

Does anyone remember a miniature golf course in ocean city Maryland that had an igloo?

It had what I think is an igloo or like an ice kind of theme. I can't seem to find anything about it anywhere.

Sure do. I used to play there all the time. It was on Philadelphia Avenue, heading towards the inlet, it was on the right hand side of the road. It was called Ice Land Golf. It been gone I'd guess, at least three years.

Personally, I think it probably began to do poorly, financially. Considering all the of the VERY elaborate miniature golf course in Ocean City.
