What makes the Cleveland CG2 Iron Set better?
Blades are quickly becoming a thing of the past… companies are finding new ways to make clubs that have blade-like feel and looks while providing the forgiveness of a cavity.
Even the best players in the world are looking for a bit of forgiveness… they can't be perfect all the time! Cleveland has been a leader in this new market and the CG2 irons are their most recent entry.
The biggest technology in the CG2's has to be Cleveland's new CMM metal. CMM metal is one of the softest metals out there and it provides great feel. I won't get into the in's and out's of CMM but basically it's less dense than traditional steel and it dampens out some of the vibrations created when the golfer hits a ball. The CG2 is a pretty nice looking club and Cleveland has done a nice job combining a blade and a cavity back. The top line and sole are thin, the cavity is there but it's not huge, the offset is minimal and the finish is appealing. 99.99% of the Cleveland CG2's I sell are steel… there is a graphite option but I don't know why someone would want to dampen any feel with graphite here. The stock shafts available are great… the ever-steady Dynamic Gold steel and the Grafalloy Blue graphite. Cleveland also has a great custom department and the CG2 has a lot of other shaft options.
What makes the CG2 better?
Simply put, Cleveland developed a material that damps vibration in an unprecedented fashion and can be readily manipulated and engineered for performance. Its called Carbon Metal Matrix (CMM). This new material, while not a composite, is infused with 17 times more carbon than traditional 8620 and 1020 carbon steels.
Using a process unique to CMM, the carbon is infused into microscopic spheres suspended within the molecular structure - creating a matrix that is 10% less dense and 15% softer than traditional carbon steel. These density relieving spheres within CMM dramatically damp vibration, offering a pure, soft feel never before achieved in any golf club.
Measuring 77 on the Rockwell B hardness scale, CMM is the softest feeling material ever used in a golf club head.

How do I get 46 inch or maybe even 47 inch I-MIX Shafts?
I just started playing the FT-IZ (I-Mix) head. I have 3 shafts, but only use 2 (Grafalloy Pro Launch Blue and Fubuki 60), both in regular. I would love to find the the Grafalloy Pro Launch in an I-Mix set-up that is 46 inches; or find a shaft with similar specs that is 46 inches.

I realize that Callaway is not going with I-Mix any longer, but there are still plenty of new shafts and pre-owned shafts that are available.
I just bought the Callaway Razr Hawk driver. I like the feel of the FT-IZ I-mix head better (I can tell when I've mis-hit it and where). However, I'm hitting the Razr Hawk longer which has a 46 inch shaft- but not straighter!!!
To start, I suggest swinging a shorter club faster. That's the little "trap" the big-named OEMs paint golfers into... sure, a longer club can be hit farther, but it's less accurate (they only trumpet the distance part in ads). Some golfers have the hand-eye coordination to make it work, but the great majority doesn't.
To answer your question... unless you get really lucky on Ebay, you're next best bet is to buy the parts separately. That is, buy the new shaft, grip and I-Mix adaptor. Now we're talking serious money, since the adaptor alone is around $30! You could also just cut off the grip and add an extension. Allow the epoxy to cure, then add a new grip. While this is more cost-effective, you wouldn't have the benefit of swapping a shorter and longer model. As you'll see below, it's also a little more complicated than just sticking an extension in...
You'll probably be better served doing this with a club builder. For every .5" change in length, the swingweight increases 3 points (if all other specs stay the same). So, if your current setup is SW'd to D3, if you add 1", it'll jump to D9... possibly making the club unweildly. A heavier grip can be used to offset this, but you'd be making the club heavier overall, as well... again, possibly preventing you from swinging the club your fastest.
Sounds confusing, doesn't it? It isn't always... but as I said, this could be worked out in better detail with a local club builder. I have to use generalizations and standards, since I don't know you or your swing. Getting that individualized help will be more beneficial to your personal needs.
