Skateboarding Wheels - Different Types and Sizes
In recent years, skateboarding has found its way into the mainstream culture. Appealing, to teenagers, boys and girls alike both for fun-filled, thrilling sports and for transportation, skateboarding has gained a tremendous popularity. It involves a lot of physical exercise too. Even children are getting into it enthusiastically. A skateboard is made up of wood mostly, though plastic and composite also are preferred by some skaters. The plank on which you can place your foot is called the deck. The decks vary in size. While the sleeker ones are preferred more for stunts on ramps, the broader ones allow easy and convenient ride on streets and parks. The two metal axles, mostly made of aluminum alloy or uranium, called the trucks are attached to the base plate of the deck, thus adjoining the wheels. Skateboarding wheels are the most important component of skateboards.
It is the skateboarding wheels that help the equipment to be in motion. Wheels of a skateboard are made of polyurethane or tough rubber. This makes the weight lighter and also give good performance. Normally the wheels size between 48 to 100 mm. The hardness and the height of the wheels vary and are solely responsible for your smooth riding. The skateboarding wheels are attached to the deck through trucks with the help of nuts, bolts and bearings. The height of the wheels is measured in diameters, while the degree of hardness in durometers.
If you buy skateboard with an intention to enjoy a simple ride on the street or parks, then larger and not very tough wheels can work out and support you for a smooth and safe carving or turning around.
The skateboarding wheels are of four kinds:
Vert - Skateboarding wheels that help in efficient vert skating, which includes landing and jumping on ramps, these need to be quite hard and durable and normally range between 55 to 65 mm. They are exclusively designed for ramp performances.
Street - Measuring between 48 to 55 mm, these skateboarding wheels are small and tough to allow the skater to perform safe and convenient skating tricks.
Slalom - Compared to the other two, the slalom skateboarding wheels are relatively larger, between 60 to 75 mm. The larger wheels help to sustain the speed for a longer period of time and provide required grip for turns. These are meant for slalom racing.
Longboard - The longboard is used for cruising and transport and so the wheels are designed accordingly. They are large in size, 65 to 100 mm and are generally made of plastic cores, as rubber would make them too heavy for a happy ride.
Whatever size and styles of skateboarding wheels you buy, the main functionality is to keep your skateboard rolling, and thus provide you a joyous ride. The good quality wheels often have the logos imprinted, which not only make them attractive to look, but also assure you of its brand, tough and durable quality. These designs are undoubtedly unique and make you look rocking and a true adventurous skater.

What setup is better? I'm a street skater. DONT base this on if Chaz Ortiz or Ryan Sheckler is a FAG or whatever, just whichever is better.

Are you basing you setups on EXACTLY what each rider has?
That's umm..interesting, but whatever man!
My thoughts are these:
- Both decent enough decks
- Both decent enough griptape, although I find mob to be a lot grippier - good if you like grip, bad if you are a shoe
- Bones bushings are good, but why not just buy the hardness you prefer?
- I'd pick Indy's over the Silvers, I've heard bad reports from people who have tried Silvers at my local park, and Indy's will pretty much grind anything if you're into that sort of thing.
- Both decent enough wheels
- Both decent enough bearings, but personal preference would take me to the Bones Swiss.
So yeah, get whatever you fancy and junk, there isn't really a "better" board out of the two.
