Electric Breast Pumps - Choosing a Breast Pump

If you have to be absent from your baby for extended periods of time, or if your baby cannot nurse properly, you may need to express your breast milk with a breast pump. There are many types of pumps available. However, they can be classified into two categories: electric or battery-powered and manual pumps. Electric pumps are preferred by mothers who have to express their milk regularly at least once a day.

Breast pumps come with different accessories to make the job of pumping breast milk easier for mothers who work full time or travel frequently. The quality varies, from basic battery operated pumps to hospital grade breast pumps. Nursing mothers must look at the different options available and consider the cost before deciding on the best electric pump to use on a daily basis.

The best type of electric breast pump is a hospital-grade pump. These pumps closely mimic a baby's suction and stimulate the breast and nipples to produce milk. High grade electric pumps for hospital use provide sufficient stimulation to optimize milk production. The main problem with a hospital-grade pump is its price.

Electric models for personal use are more affordable. Their quality varies from excellent to low grade. High quality pumps are almost as efficient as hospital grade models. They are often used by mothers while at work to provide supplemental feedings by a caregiver while the mother is away. Mothers are advised to nurse their baby naturally when they are home to help maintain an adequate supply of milk.

Electric pumps designed for personal use may not be able to provide adequate stimulation for full capacity milk production. In addition, low-level types are not recommended for everyday use. They are usually capable of expressing only small amounts of milk at one time.

Top-end electric pumps are popular with mothers who work full-time. They are very convenient to use and are fully automatic. Cycling times are quick and you can adjust the suction level to avoid nipple discomfort. Some of the newer models mimic a baby's sucking patterns to make the pumping more comfortable.

Most electric pumps are designed to be portable. They can weigh 8 pounds or less and come in attractive carrying cases. Accessories include an AC adapter, battery pack, clips, bottles, storage bags and nipple ointment.

Electric pumps can cost anywhere from $200 to $350. Popular top-quality models include Ameda's Purely Yours, Medela's Pump in Style, and Evenflo pumps.

titanium breast clips/markers for biopsy?

Have any of you ever had titanium markers for breast issues? I am set to go get them w/ the aid of MRI on the 31st & am wondering if I'll be able to drive myself or if it's really a big deal or ????

well titanium will not interfere with the MRI this is why it is chosen, the ability to drive depends on you getting narcotics for pain or anethesia. In general it is advisable to have someone to drive you on a procedure day, good luck
